About Ugratara Temple
Ugratara Temple is one of the most prominent temples in Assam, dedicated to Goddess Ugratara, a form of Goddess Parvati. It is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, making it an important pilgrimage site for devotees of Shakti worship. According to legend, the navel of Goddess Sati fell here, and the temple was built by King Shiva Singha of the Ahom dynasty in the 18th century. The temple is unique for not having an idol of the goddess but instead a small pit filled with water, symbolizing the presence of the Devi.
