About Hayagriva Madhava Temple
Located about 30 km from Guwahati, Hayagriva Madhava Temple is a revered pilgrimage destination with a unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Built in the 10th–11th century, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Hayagriva (horse-headed) avatar, who symbolizes wisdom and knowledge.
The temple’s sanctum houses a beautiful idol of Lord Vishnu, while the walls feature intricate carvings depicting scenes from Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Buddhists believe this is the site where Lord Buddha attained Nirvana, making it a spiritually significant place for both faiths.
